A Mighty Blaze’s Authors Love Bookstores: Chris Bohjalian, Louise Miller and Caroline Leavitt

This month (January 2021) for Authors Love Bookstores, presented by A Mighty Blaze, I had the pleasure of talking with three wonderful authors: Chris Bohjalian, Louise Miller, and Caroline Leavitt. They joined me to talk about their books, writing, creativity, and their favorite independent bookstore.

CHRIS BOHJALIAN
Chris is the bestselling author of more than 20 books (MIDWIVES, THE SANDCASTLE GIRLS), several of which have been adapted for television and movies, including THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT which is a hit series on HBOMax. Chris joined me on Authors Love Bookstores to talk about the paperback release of THE RED LOTUS, his 2020 novel about–wait for it!–a pandemic. It’s much more than that, though. There’s love and heartbreak at the center of THE RED LOTUS as well as a mystery to uncover, told in a fast-paced, thrilling story.

For our interview, Chris was in conversation with two of his favorite independent bookstores: The Vermont Book Shop in Middlebury, VT and Phoenix Books in Burlington, VT.

LOUISE MILLER
Louise’s novels–THE CITY BAKER’S GUIDE TO COUNTRY LIVING and THE LATE BLOOMER’S CLUB–are the perfect antidote to the stressful, what-will-the-next-news-cycle-bring worries of 2020 and 2021. These books are satisfying reads; you get to the end of Louise’s stories and you feel so good about the time you’ve spent in the world she’s created. A high compliment!

Louise joined us on Authors Love Bookstores in conversation with Buttonwood Books in Cohasset, Massachusetts, the first bookstore we’ve featured that holds author and reader events in a lighthouse!

CAROLINE LEAVITT
Caroline Leavitt is the author of eleven novels, including PIECES OF YOU and WITH OR WITHOUT YOU, which came out last year, in the middle of the pandemic. WITH OR WITHOUT YOU is the story of a woman whose life changes dramatically after she emerges from a coma. The origins of the story can be found in Caroline’s personal experience: she, too, was in the coma, and it’s had a profound impact on her life.

Caroline, one of A Mighty Blaze’s cofounders, is a generous champion of other writers, and she joined the show to talk with Harriet’s Bookshop in Philadelphia, PA, a one-year old bookstore that champions female artists and writers.
